Good points. In the west the ego is concerned with advanced postures. There are good reasons to practice advanced postures but ego security and advancement is not usually one of them. The ego will take care of itself if one simply practices yoga in a style and manner similar to the way one cleans the room. You simply attend to what is in front of you and eventually things get done.

Clarity is such a great thing. It is the foundation of intention - or could it be the other way around! Thanks for sharing this!

Dear Kamal-
Thank you very much for reading the blog and your comment. That is great that you are observing the flow of your swara. Your pingala nostril may be active while you're sleeping at night, too - try checking.
Nadi sushuma, or alternative nostril breathing, is a good pranayama (with out retention of the breath) to help balance the swara. Please contact me if you'd like more information on this breathing technique.

Also, gentle to deeper back bending asana can be wonderful heart-opening and fear-reducing postures. Scientific studies have even linked back bends to causing more endorphins to be released from the brain!
Inversions can be fear-conquering and confidence-building.

If you want to experiment with changing the swara from ida to pingala, lie on the left side for about 5 to 10 minutes. See if this activates the right side.

Also, here is a link to a site I found:
http://www.swarayoga.org/

Best wishes!
Sophie

hi Sophie,
I have observed my left mostril is active most of the time. And I also have some fear and hesitation regarding speaking in public. How can I activate Pingala enough to bring the balance. I have been doing yoga for ard 3 years now and sometimes it only seems to make my situation worse, i guess due to more passive meditation which seems to activate Ida even more. How can I activate Pingala in a short duration of time? Thanks in advance. Jai Gurudev.

Sophie, I like what you've done with your theme, I can learn a thing or two from you.

I am glad to hear that you still eat chocolate occasionally, and I am going to go and look up the word "pescatarian" in the dictionary as we speak.

Grain, veges, legumes and miso,
Tom

I loved the beautifully written "My Stroke of Insight - a Brain Scientist's Personal Journey" by Jill Bolte Taylor and her incredible talk on TED dot com. Dr. Taylor's unique perspective as a Harvard neuroanatomist having a stroke, combined with her sensitivity and awareness, produced something as powerful as I've ever witnessed. I want to share Dr Taylor's story far and wide because it's a wonderful story and a great book to read, but more importantly, this is the message we desperately need if we are to survive as a species.
